Country Blood

You can listen to some of the songs from Country Blood here

I have always found it interesting to know what a song is about and what influenced the artist to write it, so I have listed all the songs on Country Blood and the story behind each one...

Track Song Title

1

Waiting in the Shadows
After being annoyed by an ‘ex’ that wouldn’t go away and accept that things were over, the idea for this song came along.  It is written and sung from the ‘ex’s’ perspective.

2

You that I want
After a few stops and starts in getting to know each other, I was wondering if anything would ever turn into a relationship.  Patience turned out to be a virtue – we married in 2009.

3

Everything
When I started recording this CD, I already had a song about my husband but it was a bit outdated and even though I love the song, I wanted to write one of how I feel about him now. So here it is, a true love song from the heart.

4

Country Blood
This song is all about the differences that there can be between living in the city and in the country and how people interact with each other.  I was born in the city but my mother took us all to live in the country when I was around 10 years old. It was there I learned the ‘country ways’ of knowing everyone and how friendly most are.

5

Leaving On Your Mind
This is a Patsy Cline song. Most who have been to hear me sing know that I love Patsy Cline.  I’m not really sure what it is about this song that captures me but I just LOVE singing it!

6

Reckless
Reckless is a song about a young man I met who could not get over his first love. He would often go out on the weekends and get very drunk in an effort to forget her, but often ended up doing silly things he regretted the next day.

7

Rockin’ With The Rhythm Of The Rain
This is a Judds number that I have always loved. I included it as I wanted to include a lighter song to the CD.  I have been a fan of The Judds for many, many years.

8

Unchained Melody
I often say on stage that this may not be a ‘country’ song to many but as Willie Nelson did a version of it, I say, “that makes it country to me”. An ageless, beautiful song that I am often requested to sing.

9

Broken Years
Some time ago I went through 3 dark years whilst experiencing a bout of depression.  It was a time of ‘alone-ness’ after many walked away through lack of understanding. A sad song, with a happy ending!

10

Walls Up
Walls Up came from meeting someone who had a lot of trouble letting anyone get close to him.  He had been very badly hurt from a former love that he had trouble recovering from. He had his ‘walls up’ and didn’t want to let anyone get close enough to hurt him again.

11

What Am I Gonna Do
This one doesn’t come from personal experience, but the chorus was in my head for quite a few years. Recording this CD, drove me to finally complete it. I am very happy with the outcome as it has become one of my favourites (are you allowed to have your own songs as favourites??).

12

Goodbye
We often know a relationship is going to end, but it can still take us by surprise when it happens.  ‘Goodbye’ came from my own experiences.

I would love to hear your thoughts on my songs or any questions you may have.
